My 2500 alarmed and indicated the DPF was 50%. Took it for a highway run (60mph 2 hours) and it won’t come down. Dealer initiated a burn, did a highway run and it’s back to 50%. Back to dealer who did a 2nd manual regen. Back to the highway and it went back to 50%. Today it finally did an auto regen which took 42 minutes (highway driving).
Top. Re: How often does a DPF regen happen? by KevofCov » Wed Oct 06, 2021 9:29 pm. KevofCov wrote: I am aware that there is no exact frequency and it depends on all sorts of parameters. As a ball park on a long trip is it typically every hour, once a day, once a week? Yes a piece of string.
This is called passive regeneration. DPF regeneration (active) Some cars don’t use the motorway often enough. When the accumulating soot reaches about 45%, the DPF switches to active regeneration. The car forces higher exhaust temperatures, burning the soot in the process. Failed DPF regeneration . In towns and cities, some cars do not reach

The 10-minute regen timer is just a notification that a parked regen needs to occur. A parked regen is going to go through a full cycle to ensure everything related to the engine and aftertreatment system is working properly. The aftertreatment covers the EGR, DPF, DEF, SCR systems.

How do I Regen DPF BMW x5? November 7, 2022 by Carolina. Spread the love. at least 10L of fuel – ideally above 1/4 of a tank of fuel. A journey of 20-30 minutes of driving at speeds of above 40mph.

250 miles is too often it should be between 500 miles and 2100 miles (from memory, or perhaps 500km and 2100km). If it's doing it regularly at the the 500 figure it usually indicates a faulty sensor. The car can't determine the DPF status so it regens as often as possible. You need to get the fault codes read.
Cleaning vs. replacing DPFI realize the cost is significantly higher for replacing, but I am wondering what I should do based on my circumstances. I drive 100,000 miles a year (actually in 49 weeks). 99% is all 65-75 mph. Just turned over 212,000 and my drivetrain malfunction light came on.
I'm wondering how often does your GTD do a DPF regen? I have a MK7 GTD with 120k km on it and it keeps doing regens every 250km or so (higher idle rpm and fans blowing, no dpf light though). Is that normal? I couldn't really find anything about GTD DPF, sorry if i didn't look hard enough. With other cars people said it's supposed to be 500+km.
This is the regen. DEF = Diesel Exhaust Fluid, used to reduce nitrogen oxide compounds (NOx) in the exhaust. DPF = Diesel Particulate Filter, captures the “soot” that diesels are known for. If the DPF gets too much soot collected, the system adds a little fuel to the exhaust stream to burn off the collected soot.

The first regeneration didn't occur until 10,865 KM in October of 2014. Then through our northern winter it regenerated approximately every 1,000 - 1,500 kms. I expected that come spring the frequency would return to the first summer of operation. Not so. At least once a month it regenerates and still about every 1,000 - 1,500 km.
